Black Blotched Porcupine fish (Diodon liturosus)

Description

One of the hottest things in underwater photography at the moment is the unique perspective of the Nauticam EMWL lens system. The "Extended Marcro Wide Lens" allows the photographer to get wide macro shots where the subject is front and foremost with the background included.

It is a very long wet lens attachment consisting of 3 parts - a focus unit, a relay and an objective lens. In this case we were using a 60mm macro lens on a Nikon D500 camera along with a 110 degree objective lens - this is the part that creates the wide view. Whilst these set ups look cumbersome, once underwater and balancing the rig with buoyancy arms it is actually not too bad to handle. When the right subject presents itself in can create really unique images.

This Black Blotched Porcupine fish (Diodon liturosus) with its huge eyes and prickly spines was happy to let us get close enough to let the EMWL do its magic!! The trick is to get close ----- really close!!
