RED LION FISH - (Pterois volitans)

Description

Melenia Reef, Ngnuna Island, vanuatu. We find several species of lion fish in Vanuatu varying in size and colouration. These ones are often found on the sides of bommies where they lie in wait for their prey. They have voracious appetites. Being endemic to the Pacific these fish have their place in our ecosystem but in the Atlantic have become a major problem and are causing a serious decline in native fish stocks. This resulted from careless aquariasts releasing their “pets”.
